There are those that fly to distant destinations and then there are those that like road trips.

If you are one of the latter, this post might not interest you, but hey! Read on, maybe i can convince you to take a flight to a different country for once? mountains or beach? undefined

Road trips are one thing and flights are another. The one thing common is over the course of both trips, we get tired.

There could be many reasons for you to choose a flight over a road trip and vice versa. No one is saying which one is better. If you want to get to Mumbai from New York we both know you are not going to take your car right? At the same time, a cross country drive instead of a flight seems like an adventure to some.

If you are choosing a destination you could take your car to, then it boils down to how fast you need to get there and if you are up for an adventure on the road.

Well, for those that do not have the patience to sit in a car for too long, this one is for you.

After comfort, the cost is one of the main factors that will drive your decision.

While many say they don’t mind a little discomfort in the flight – good for them! You would like to take a comfortable flight to wherever and that’s that. So, what are you going to do about the cost?

Well, here are some tricks you could use to find a cheap ticket across the country or across the world!

1. Use Flight Search Engines smartly.

Using a good airfare search engine is one of the textbook tricks to finding cheap flights. These search engines automate their search for your tickets with many different carriers, and make use of tools to give you estimated prices, price maps based on destinations, fare alerts by email, and much more.

You should check with multiple flight search engines before you book your ticket though. Its hard to keep track of which site is consistently giving you best prices. Since the prices differ from place to place and destination to destination, and many other parameters, it is a job best left to automation.

Some search engines offer better deals than others.

Oh! One important thing to keep in mind about search engines is that there is a chance you will find different fares on the same flight from different places in the world. But there is not much you could do about that unless you know someone who will book your tickets for you.

But, if you’re in India lemme give you some of my favorite sites to check for cheap flights:

  • Makemytrip
  • Goibibo
  • Skyscanner
  • Google Flights
  • Expedia

2. Get Error & Discount Fare Alerts

First, search on multiple flight search engines, then, set up fare alerts for each one.

Set the date, the destination and then wait. The website will send you regular information. Yes it will be irritating to receive too many emails each day but don’t worry, nowadays, websites understand the fact that by spamming our inboxes, we just send their emails to the junk folder, thus they send limited, but effective emails that are full of useful offers and coupons.

3. Identify the Cheapest Days To Fly

There are many vague theories about how to identify the cheapest days. The most reliable option is data.

Data says, the best days to book flights seem to be Tuesday, Wednesday, or Saturday because they’re off-peak with less people booking on those days and thus you get lower fares.

Early morning flights or red-eyes (overnight) will usually be cheaper too.

Instead of looking for cheap day to fly, you could just fly in the off season or the shoulder season. This will give you better prices on your flight and the added bonus of less crowds at the place you are visiting! Not to mention the cheaper accommodation charges too (which can disrupt many plans).

The off season has a lot to do with the destination of choice. If going to a predominantly cold place, choose the winter months because not many people will be willing to go a cold place during winter. Vice versa for the summer.

4. Major Airline Newsletters

What better place to buy a product than at the source?

The best airfare deals are always up on offer on the airline websites, in the form of promo codes and special offers.

Subscribing to the airline’s newsletter gives you premium access to custom notifications about these deals! Its true, they can sometimes offer discounts as big as 50% off the published fares!

Some airlines require you to be a part of their loyalty program to sign up for these special newsletters.

5. The cat is out the bag – Booking in January & February gets you cheap tickets!

Don’t get me wrong. I am not asking you to TRAVEL during these months – simply book.

Round trip flights from India to Istanbul for 100$!? Yes please!

Data has helped airlines recognize the fact that people are not making any travel plans during these months. So, in a bid to increase business, the rates are dropped significantly, specifically during these months.

Keep these tips in mind when booking your flights. Thank me later!

Okay, I hope you got some value from this post!
